Pre-K / Kindergarten and STEAM Project Progressing...

STEAM Addition

BC Facilities Project Progressing... Building for Our Students Future!

We are excited to report that the planning for the District's Pre-K / Kindergarten Education Center and STEAM Lab (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) is progressing nicely. We have been working with the Buehrer Architectural Group and have finalized the floor plans and building elevations for the additions.

The Pre-K / Kindergarten Center will be approximately 20,000 square feet. It will house three (3) kindergarten classrooms and four (4) preschool classrooms. The design includes extended learning areas outside of the classrooms for group work and problem-solving based activities. A large group area is included for physical fitness activities, gross motor skill development, and parent/student events. This addition will be located nearest Guiss Road on the south end of the current building.

The STEAM lab and related conference and office areas will be approximately 7000 square feet. The lab will be 3007 square feet with additional storage areas and student oriented, flexible space. It is designed for a variety of activities in the areas of science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math. The lab will be set up for real life, problem solving activities and programs. This addition is located nearest the main drive on the north end of the current building.

Both of these additions are focused on the student and designed to provide 21st Century educational programming in a modern, safe, and student-centered environment.

The third component of the facilities project is the building of a bus facility to house our buses year-round. Having the buses under cover will prolong the life of the buses and provide a much safer environment for the drivers during winter months. Students will also benefit through warm, well maintained buses by minimizing or eliminating harsh winter weather bus concerns. This facility will be located to the south of our current bus maintenance garage.

Included in this edition of The Herald are renderings of the Pre-K / Kindergarten and STEAM additions. As you will note, the architecture presents a modern, 21st Century look blended attractively into our present building. The additions will utilize the exact brick and sandstone exterior materials and include excellent natural lighting through the use of strategically placed glass and large windows. Building use and student safety have been important components of the architectural process.

Large building renderings, floor plans, and a brief video will be available for viewing at school functions and sporting events in the near future. These items will also be included on our District website and distributed via our District social media platforms, e.g. Facebook & Twitter. The current timeline projects construction documents to be finalized in November allowing the project to be bid soon thereafter. Once a construction firm is identified through the bidding process, construction is planned to begin in late winter/early spring. Project completion is forecast for the fall of 2020. We will continue to keep you updated as the project progresses. If you have any questions, please contact Mark Robinson, Superintendent, at (419) 492-2864.
